According to Keith Richards, following a Rolling Stones meeting in Amsterdam in 1984, Keef and Mick Jagger went out on the town, returning to their hotel in the early hours. Jagger picked up the phone to fellow Stone Charlie Watts' room and demanded: "Where's my drummer?"
When The Rolling Stones split because of in-fighting between frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, it left the rest of the band at a loss for what to do. For some, it meant returning to the recording studio as well, tinkering with the spare time which had been afforded by the bust-up of one of Britain’s biggest bands. It is what happened with Charlie Watts and his ill-forgotten solo career is as charming as the man seemed. Long Ago & Far Away feels like an album fallen from a generation long past. Of Frank Sinatra classics and lounge music listens on a Sunday afternoon.
Charlie Watts became The Rolling Stones drummer in 1963, one year after the band founded and he reamined as the drummer until his death at the age of 80 in 2021.
1. Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones)
It’s not exactly right to say that any member of one of the biggest rock bands of all time is underrated. However, you can’t argue that The Rolling Stones’ image has historically revolved around Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
“Roy is an amazing guy who plays now as well as he’s ever played,” the Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts said in 2013. “If any young person asked me who they should follow in one’s life, I’d say Roy Haynes. He’s eternally young — there’s absolutely nothing wayward about him.”
Watts and fellow drummer Jim Keltner recorded a 1997 tribute number called, appropriately enough, “Roy Haynes.”
Ronnie Wood was joined by glamorous wife Sally as they attended a gallery launch in London on Tuesday evening.
The Rolling Stones legend was hand-in-hand with Sally while launching an exhibition of his own work at the Andrew Martin shop on Walton Street in Chelsea.
Ronnie, 77, looked appropriately smart in a black two-piece suit and crisp white dress shirt as he greeted onlookers before making his way inside.
Taking to Instagram to share the new piece, he wrote: 'Ronnie's latest portrait of the Rolling Stones shows the band on a Havana Street, with Charlie playing a Cuban drum, Mick dancing with a flourish and Darryl throwing his Fedora into the air!

The Rolling Stones「Start Me Up」(ドラム / チャリー・ワッツ)
