In this documentary, Aretha Franklin performs with the choir at Watts’ New Bethel Baptist Church in January 1972 while recording her live best-selling gospel album “Amazing Grace.” In attendance are Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones as well as members of Franklin’s family and the local congregation and community who worship alongside her.
It's the beloved live music venue which has hosted everyone from Hollywood superstar Steven Seagal to The Rolling Stones' Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts during its 30 years in business.
While the late Charlie Watts is considered one of the great drummers of all time, he was overshadowed by Mick and Keith within his own band. And that was OK with Watts, who never longed for notoriety and praise.

Charlie Watts, on 50 years of The Rolling Stones (2012)
“The anniversary starts next month but it goes into next year because Bill Wyman and I joined on January 2, 1963 (sic), I think it was, but the Stones actually played in the Marquee on July 12 1962.

Keith Richards still speaks to his late bandmate Charlie Watts.
The Rolling Stones' legendary drummer passed away aged 80 in 2021 from throat cancer, and he is still so sorely missed by his bandmates, so much so that guitar hero Keith, 80, has "conversations" with the sticksman.
Speaking to Guitarist magazine, he said: "All I can say is I loved the man dearly and I miss him.
I still have conversations with him [laughs]."

Charlie Watts, about jazz, rock’n’roll and the Stones (2000)
“With the jazz, it’s great being onstage with such wonderful players, and with the Stones, it’s great being up there with your friends. I stand firmly with my rock & roll band, though I have to say I have always considered the Stones to be a great blues band. Rock & roll to me is Little Richard“

Awesome. Awesome. One of the standout singles from Kicks, Hits, and Fits is undoubtedly “I Got the Hots for Charlie Watts”, which I understand may have been…it was thought of, you know, as a possible title for this album, even. Has there been any word from anyone associated with The Rolling Stones regarding Charlie himself or any other Stones’ members hearing the song?

About Charlie Watts and Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker
(from Showbiz Cheatsheet)
The Rolling Stones have been around for six decades, but even they have their influences. Blues musicians like Buddy Waters and B.B. King inspired Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. However, The Rolling Stones’ drummer, Charlie Watts, wasn’t exactly influenced by the blues. He was a die-hard jazz enthusiast up until the day he died, which sadly was Aug. 24. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre, and when he couldn’t relate to the rock star lifestyle, he always knew jazz would be there for him.
More than 25 previously lost and unseen photos of the Rolling Stones by one of their photographers and his assistants are to go on display in London.
