Typically, the drummer’s primary role is to maintain the pulse and ensure their finesse supports the song rather than overshadowing it. However, Keith Richards understood the critical role of rhythm. During The Rolling Stones’ golden age, he considered ‘Street Fighting Man’ one of Charlie Watts’ most outstanding performances.

Watts' first and lifelong musical love was not rock 'n' roll but jazz. Out on the road with the Stones, you'd often find him visiting local jazz clubs on the band's off nights. Watts' first solo album, 1991's From One Charlie, featured his own jazz group, the Charlie Watts Quintet. Rocker Ronnie Wood has paid tribute to his late Rolling Stones bandmate Charlie Watts on the anniversary of his death.
The drummer, an original member of the British rock band, died on August 24 2021 in a London hospital at the age of 80.
Guitarist Wood posted a black-and-white photo on Instagram of him smiling with Watts, writing: “Miss you Charlie”.
