Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts dies aged 80
AWFUL NEWS. One of the true timeless icons and the backbone of the Stones. Hard to fathom the loss. So very sad.
In 2020 I painted his portrait as part of a series on my musician friends.
Charlie Watts.
A prince among thieves.
A gentleman through and through.
Rest in Peace.
So sad to hear of the passing of legendary artist and drummer Charlie Watts. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie’s family and friends, the fans, and the band.
The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, has died at the age of 80.
Condolences to his family and band members.
Back in 1965 aged 8 I played the guitar riff of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” on my toy Rolling Stones guitar at every available moment of the day.
Thank you for being an inspiring part of the soundtrack of my life. More than just being a great musician, you came over as genuine and sincere… A real gentleman!
You played a huge part in letting us know that it’s not all hype, posturing and smoke screens and that we could be successful by being ourselves!
Will play the Stones "Miss You” as that’s exactly what we’re gonna do!
R.I.P. Charlie. Love, Life & Jazz always! Peace… Bluey aka Jean-Paul Maunick
Devastating news , those in the know know he was the heart & soul of the band .... I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him a few times, a total gentleman... it goes without saying he will be sorely missed .. RIP Charlie

A very sad day. Charlie Watts was the ultimate drummer. The most stylish of men, and such brilliant company. My deepest condolences to Shirley, Seraphina and Charlotte. And of course, The Rolling Stones.

So saddened to hear about the passing of Charlie Watts . An absolute inspiration to a legion of drummers since the 1960’s. A man of grace , style , dignity and composure . His simple style was a lesson to us all , when we heard Charlie play , we realised there was never a need to over perform , it was all about the groove , serving the band and of course the song.
Most of all , despite being in the greatest rock and roll band of all time , his self effacing manner and humility was a shining light for all of us in the world to follow..
Thank you Charlie
Roger

Condolences to Charlie’s family and band mates. I had the privilege of opening up 6 Stones shows back in 2006 as direct support. Charlie was a kind soul who made it a point to always smile and say hello. Beyond that one of the greatest and most influential drummers in rock history. RIP master Charlie Watts. You will be sadly missed. @therollingstones #charliewatts #RIP
Rock 'n' Roll has lost one of its greatest drummers and time keepers of all time.
Many dozens of times, I’ve said to many drummers, “Please just play like Charlie Watts!" What a legacy of music he leaves behind. Incredible. Sending peace to loved ones. Rock on in heaven, Charlie!
“Having worked with the greatest band in History, I am deeply saddened by the passing of the classy Gentleman who I had the pleasure of working with. To unravel so many Memorable ties of Musical entanglements. A class act was Mr. Watts. My heart is crushed and my memories will continue I suppose to ensure my Broken heart. Love you Charlie Watts.” Blondie Chaplin
When a band comes along that starts a Revolution and by doing so inspires many more bands to join the revolution, it’s important to bow your head and pay your respects. Who knows where we would all be without @therollingstones and the man who set the groove and laid down the foundation, @charliewattsofficial -
